Windows 8.1 N and Android 4.4 KitKat

After years of using my old iPhone 3G it was time to get a new phone, the Nexus 5. But with all things new there are some troubles. Firstly Android is totally unknown to me and secondly how do I get windows to recognize the new phone.

As stated in the Heading, I’m using Windows 8.1 N (the one without all the Media features) and I’m pretty happy with it. Boots fast, runs smooth and is a little better than Windows 8 was. But back to topic, the Nexus 5 is not recognized by Windows 8.1 N and it tells me to install the drivers. So I went to the Android homepage downloaded the USB drivers … and nothing happend. w00t???

Nexus 5 - the unkown device

So looking at the phone while it is connected to the PC it tells me „Connected as media device“. Media … wait … Windows 8.1 N and Media … does not have it. What now? Looking around the net I found a helpful topic an a forum saying I should download „Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8.1„. After downloading the phone is recognized by Windows 8.1 N and I can copy stuff. Sweet!

Hope this helps others looking for a solution.
